The leader of Tonga's Democratic Party says an offer by the Prime Minister of two cabinet seats for his MPs is inadequate.
The party won the majority of seats elected by the people in the election last month.
However, the nine MPs representing the nation's Nobles received the support of enough Independents to give them a majority in parliament.
The newly elected Prime Minister, Lord Tu'ivakano earlier this week said a formal announcement of the new cabinet would be made on Thursday.
Democratic Party Leader, Akilisi Pohiva has told Radio Australia's Pacific Beat program the Prime Minister should hold further consultations with his party before making a final decision.
He says his party deserves at least six portfolios as they represent 80 per cent of Tonga's population.
"We will have to have a meeting to decide what we are going to do, but since our party has been given only two portfolios, we have to sit down and consider what is most appropriate not only for the party but for the representatives of the people from 12 constituencies." (From ABC News)
