The head of the Commonwealth Games Federation is rushing to New Delhi seeking an emergency meeting with the Indian Prime Minister.
The move comes amid widespread disquiet over last-minute preparations for the sports meeting of nations of the former British Commonwealth.
Mike Fennell was always planning to arrive in New Delhi on Thursday but now there is added urgency to his trip.
He wants to meet the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for a special briefing on the preparations.
The latest embarrassment was caused when panels fell out of the ceiling of the weightlifting stadium.
India's development minister has called it a hiccup, not an obstacle but coming on heels of the footbridge collapse it has reignited fears about shoddy construction.
In its travel advice for India, the Australian Government is now warning about poor building standards. (From ABC News)
