Wolves boss Mick McCarthy has confirmed the club are in talks to sign Steve Sidwell from Aston Villa.
As revealed by skysports.com, Wolves have stolen in to sign Sidwell after the midfielder's proposed move to West Ham hit a stumbling block.
Sidwell is understood to have watched Wolves' 1-0 win over his former club Chelsea on Wednesday evening as he prepares to hold talks and undergo a medical at Molineux.
When told of Sidwell being at the Chelsea game, McCarthy said "He's a Wolves fan - didn't you know?"
McCarthy is a big fan of the former Reading midfielder and is hopeful of bringing the player to the club.
"I haven't spoken to him, so there's nothing much I can say. A fee had been agreed with the clubs beforehand. His family were closer to West Ham and I had no gripe with that at all," he added.
"But if he's available and we can agree a fee and terms I'd take him in a heartbeat."
