Lampard calls for new recruits

Chelsea and England midfielder Frank Lampard is urging manager Carlo Ancelotti to strengthen the squad during this month's transfer window.

His call comes in the wake of Chelsea's 7-0 rout of Ipswich in the FA Cup third round, with Lampard contributing two of the goals to signal his return to form.

"If we add some new players in January then fantastic," Lampard told the club's official website. "Then hopefully we can get back to where we know we can be."

Sunday's win over Ipswich snapped a disappointing series of results in the Premier League for the West London club who have won just once in their last nine league games, and it also takes some of the pressure off Ancelotti, whose job was coming under increased scrutiny.
