Gerrard - The only way is up

Steven Gerrard has made no excuses for Liverpool's dire form at the start of the season but he now believes the only way is up after defeating Blackburn.

Anfield welcomed a return to winning ways on Sunday as Sotirios Kyrgiakos and Fernando Torres scored the goals that wrapped up a 2-1 Premier League victory.

Under-fire boss Roy Hodgson was delighted to see his side produce a lively and creative performance, which has been missing in the last two months against the backdrop of New England Sports Ventures' takeover saga.

The win was not enough to move out of the relegation zone but Gerrard was also impressed with the display and he now wants to climb the table.

Liverpool's captain, who was rested for the midweek Europa League draw at Napoli, told his club's official website: "The three points will have done wonders for everyone.
