Struggling Portsmouth crashed out of the Carling Cup 2-1 on Tuesday night at the hands of Championship rivals Leicester.
Following two early goals for the visitors fromMichael Morrison and Lloyd Dyer, Pompey were unable to stage a sufficient comeback after Richard Hughes was shown a straight red card in the second half.
The hosts managed to pull one back throughLiam Lawrence to make for a nail-biting finale at Fratton Park, but the Foxes managed to hold on for their win to advance to the fourth round.
Both clubs have struggled so far in the Championship but Paulo Sousa's side have saved their best performances for this competition and it proved to be the case once more.
