Phil Brown has landed the Preston North End job, Front News can confirm.
Brown has been out of work since leaving Hull City last year, but he has now agreed to take charge at Deepdale.
The 51-year-old was also linked with the vacant Championship positions at Crystal Palace and Burnley, but he accepted the offer from Preston and he will now look to save their season as they are currently seven points adrift of safety.
Brian Horton is excepted to join him as his assistant, and they will look to get off to a winning start as they host Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup third round on Saturday.
Brown steps into the void created by the departure of Darren Ferguson after a miserable spell at the helm.
