Bowyer could land FA ban

Birmingham midfielder Lee Bowyer could face a possible Football Association ban over incidents during the home Premier League clash with Arsenal on Saturday.

Television replays show Bowyer appearing to stamp on the knee of Gunners defender Bacary Sagna as he lay on the pitch at St Andrews.

In a separate incident, Bowyer, who turns 34 on Monday, was shown to apparently catch Sagna down the back of his Achilles near the touchline.

No action was taken by referee Peter Walton at the time and Bowyer was eventually substituted by Blues manager Alex McLeish.

The FA will now get in touch with Walton to determine whether or not he saw the incidents involving Bowyer during the Gunners' 3-0 triumph.

If Walton confirms he did not see what happened, then the FA have the power to follow up the matter and to decide whether or not to charge Bowyer with violent conduct.
