NTT Communications Corp., which opened an office Phnom Penh last week to become the first ‘‘global carrier’’ in Cambodia, expects companies from Japan, Thailand and Singapore to welcome its services, Hajime Miyazaki, country manager for Cambodia, said Tuesday.
Miyazaki said his company will both invest in Cambodia and cooperate with local partners to provide IT solutions and consulting services for corporate customers. Phu Leewood, secretary general of the National Information Communications Technology Development Authority, said Cambodia welcomes the move by NTT Communications that ‘‘will help share information technology’’ as well as provide new jobs. Miyazaki did not reveal the size of the NTT Communications investment, but he did say the company has a five-year plan and investments will be decided upon the market situation at each milestone in the plan.
The addition of Phnom Penh expands the firm’s network of subsidiaries and offices to 67 cities in 25 countries. Cambodia, according to government statistics, had 6.3 million mobile phone users at the end of 2009, up from an estimated 3.8 million in 2008. Currently, there are nine mobile phone companies in the Cambodia and many Cambodians own multiple cards and phones. (From CIC)
